With news flying around that we’re in for an Indian Summer no one’s really thinking about the weeks of rain, snow and ice that we have to look forward to in the months to come. Even so when the winter hits in Britain it may not be the harsh conditions seen in places like Canada or even parts of Europe, but for many of us it feels extreme especially as this whole snow thing is still very new to us. Last year many of us got stranded in the snow, so this year we’re all prepping ahead and getting our wardrobe ready for the days of snow and ice. Lucky for us our first delivery from Canada Goose arrived this week and we’re all over it!
.
What can I tell you about Canada Goose? Well it’s a Canadian (big shock) outerwear brand which focuses on providing clothing for extreme weather conditions (and saving the Polar Bears by directing funds to the PBI). These are conditions which aren’t our 10 inches of snow or 10 days of rain, but are Arctic winds and Siberian snow places where your body is pushed to it’s limits. Canada Goose was founded back in 1957 in a small warehouse in Toronto and has stuck to it’s roots by manufacturing everything at home – ‘We’re proud to have Canadians rely on us for protection in unspeakably cold conditions. We stay in Canada because that’s who we are.’
.
They have a whole nest of ‘Goose People’ who rely on them to provide clothing for the insane conditions they throw themselves into, people like Lance Mackey the winning Musher of the world’s toughest dog sled races. It’s been the brand of choice for film crews working in unforgivable environments for years and in 2004 it moved on screen when it was featured in the film The Day after Tomorrow. And to prove it’s not just another costume choice, some of the most stylish men (as declared by GQ) have chosen to bundled up in Canada Goose with the likes of Daniel Craig, Andrew Garfield and Drake all spotted wearing it. Alongside manufacturing ‘big mountain’ jackets for adventurers, Canada Goose make outerwear in a variety of styles each with it’s own specification. One of the collections is Hybridge, which is an award winning collection designed for different climates, needs and uses. In 2011 Canada Goose introduced Hybridge Lite, an even lighter and more adaptable range showing their commitment to evolving their designs for the new conditions.
It’s this range that JA chose for this season, a collection which we felt would be ideal for those who are tackling the British weather without going too OTT (it may be cold here but it’s not Siberia…). The Hybridge Lite jacket features a helmet friendly hood to protect you from the elements, lightweight insulation made up of Hutterite and Canadian down, and a breathable abrasion resistant soft shell. If you want to stay warm without being immobilised and suffocated by layers, then this jacket answers your prayers as it’s so lightweight it weighs less than half a pound! It’s an outstanding piece of clothing that fits well and looks amazing on. This jacket will be your shield against the weather which is yet to come….
