THE REPORT

I know it’s 25 degrees outside and the last thing we’re all thinking about is piling the layers on, however that’s not what the weird and wonderful world of fashion is saying. Summer is officially over when it comes to what’s new, so it’s now all about the Autumn / Winter collections. As we say goodbye to summer -whilst sweating- we welcome all that the new season has to offer us, which so far looks bloody good! This season shows more than ever the amazing development of men’s fashion. We’ve always loved it but now it seems that it’s not just the fanatics – like us – who are embracing everything that this industry has to offer. Guys are investing more and more in their personal style, collating a rather good selection of accessories and footwear – worthy competition of the girlfriend’s collection  – and it’s now preferably acceptable to be an owner of a ridiculous amount of accessories. Beyond the London bubble people are fully embracing the trends, which to many were way out of their comfort zones, allowing menswear to finally get the recognition it’s deserves. The publicity and appreciation for the talent and creativity has hit a high point, especially with the likes of London Collections: Men (who celebrated they’re 5th anniversary this year), womenswear has always trumped us but we’re now catching them up! So with the rise of menswear making everything a little more exciting, we’re going to take a look at what’s come in from the AW14 collections so far and our favourite pieces chosen by the team…

THE SMARTEST PIECES

It’s Vivienne Westwood who’s delivered this season when it comes to dressing dapper. A fantastic offering of shirts, waistcoats and suits that are fully British in their design but have the Italian quality in their manufacture. There’s even a cracking black overcoat that was made to be worn over a beautiful suit… The shirts from the PS Paul Smith collection always compliments a suit very well, we appreciate the stippled slim fit shirt with it’s flecked design, it is still relatively plain but still offers a little out of the norm.

THE SIMPLISTIC STYLE

Even if you’re not typically one for white t-shirts and athletic hoodies, having a selection of the basics in your wardrobe is always a good thing. Sunspel is the king of all things plain, offering beautifully made t-shirts, polos and sweatshirts for this season in a range of classic shades. And Polo Ralph Lauren is once again back to provide us with all our necessary preppy pieces – there are some brilliant new t-shirts in where the placing of the signature polo pony has been played around with.

THE PERFECT POLO

No matter your age or style, polo shirts are the one constant in most men’s wardrobes and this season we’ve got an eclectic collection coming from a whole mix of different brands. The polo shirt offers a blank canvas that can be interpreted in so many ways, leaving us with a choice of the traditional look to the more modern youthful image. Look out for Lacoste L!ve this season, who have provided both a splendid range of plain croc logo polos and a creative collection of vibrant printed polo shirts. Stone Island, Armani Jeans and Polo Ralph Lauren are also great providers of the autumnal polo, in both short sleeved and long…

THE FOOTWEAR

Grenson are once again supplying beautiful pieces of footwear this season. So far it’s the Monty tassel loafer that’s stolen our hearts, available in both the traditional and versatile tan, and seasonal burgundy. For something usual; the amazing Paul Smith marble pitt monk strap will satisfy. When it comes down to the athletic casual footwear we will always endorse Y-3 for everything it stands for and for the sheer creativity shown. However Lacoste are also showing a few great pieces, from the plain Ventron patent trainer to the more creative Mortain leather shoe.

THE OUTERWEAR

Yes, the overcoats and heavy jackets have started to land. Get your foot in the door for this Autumn /Winter with stunning woollen overcoats, quilted bombers, countryside inspired-waxed jackets and winter adapted sports jackets. Look to Dsquared for the more casual with the shearling collared sports jacket, Barbour and Belstaff are back with another great British collection of waxed jackets, and Stone Island has dipped back into the archives and pulled out the Ice jacket for those who love a technical piece.
