THE REPORT

Spring is an awkward time of year where many of us ‘hold-off’ until warmer weather before we hit the shops for the latest looks. This isn’t necessary when you know how to layer an outfit, when you can leave the house kitted out to tackle all manner of erratic weather spells. It may not be warm enough for the vests and shorts just yet – unless you’re heading out for Spring break – but you can easily get away with t-shirts, shirts and jackets. Put the heavy woollen overcoats back in your wardrobe for next winter, it’s officially Spring so start dressing like it! It may be cold enough to warrant such heavy outerwear but there’s no need if you layer up underneath a lighter weight bomber jacket.

It’s been a staple silhouette for a good few seasons now, a favourite amongst the counter-culture groups, it’s become a popular look that many designers are adapting to make their own. A youthful piece that has a strong military heritage but that doesn’t mean it needs to be restrictive in style. Exceptionally easy to wear, it’s no wonder that every designer worth his salt has played around with it, resulting in a huge selection for us to choose from. The thing which makes the bomber jacket so appealing is it’s ability to work with any style, from button-down shirts to scruffy crew necks. Classic and versatile, wear it with your favourite worn jeans, comfy drainpipe joggers or even your office tailoring.

SIMPLE IS SOMETIMES BEST

The plainer designs like from Lacoste Live and Belstaff are ideal when you just want to throw something on without too much thought.

A BIG STATEMENT MAKER

Bolder designs from the the ambitious Moschino team or the slightly more subtle printing from Wolsey, are to be teamed with muted tones – think classic tees and sweatshirts. Let the jacket speak for itself.

LUXURIOUS

A little luxury from Carven and Calvin Klein in the form of the leather bomber jacket, something heavier but equally as versatile as it’s nylon sibling.
